Airplane Art – Stan Stokes painted this fantastic aviation art as a tribute to Manfred von Richtofen, entitled The Ringmaster,
and Tailwinds is pleased to offer this striking art on a heavy gauge steel sign. von Richtofen aka “The Red Baron” was the top ace of WWI with 80 kills but it is suggested he had an additional 40-50 kills that were unconfirmed as they were over enemy lines. In 1917, due to his success as a skilled pilot, von Richtofen was given unit control near Coutrui and the unit quickly became known as Richtofen’s Circus. In this art piece, Stokes shows the masterful Red Baron lining up his aircraft for another victory over a Sopwith Camel airplane.
The Red Baron airplane sign uses a time tested method call sublimation to produce the vivid colors seen on the sign. First a powder coating it applied that is baked onto the steel plate to provide a long lasting and durable finish. Then a special coating is added by hand to give the sign a vintage look. Finally rivets are drilled into the metal to make the sign easy to hang. The Red Baron sign measures approximately 24" wide by 16" high and weights 4 lbs. Please allow 3-4 days for production of this stunning sign.
