X-1 Model

This Bell X-1 airplane is a replica scale model of the original aircraft produced by Bell Aircraft. The Bell X-1 is a rocket engine-powered aircraft, and the first aircraft to experience controlled level supersonic flight. Piloted by Chuck Yeager, the X-1 reached a speed of almost a 1,000 mph. It was often referred to as the "bullet on wings," because the fuselage shape looked similar to a Browning .50 caliber machine gun bullet.
