P-38 Lightning Model | Pilot Ace Dick Bong's Plane

This P-38J Lightning airplane is a replica scale model of the original aircraft manufactured by Lockheed and flown by ace pilot Richard (Dick) Bong. Major Richard Bong was one of the most decorated USAAC pilots of WWII. This ace pilot downed 40 Japanese aircraft, and was also the recipient of the Metal of Honor. After becoming smitten with his then girlfriend and later wife, Marge, he plastered her photograph on the nose of his aircraft. Regrettably Major Bong perished in 1945 when test flying the P-80 Shooting Star airplane.
