P-47D Thunderbolt Model

Our P-47D Thunderbolt is a replica wood scale model of the original aircraft manufactured by Republic Aviation from 1941-1945. The bubble canopy was introduced on this P-47D version of this short to medium range escort fighter. Using the Pratt & Whitney R-2800 Double Wasp 18-cylinder radial engine, this high altitude, air-to-air fighter was a workhorse for the US Army Air Corp in both Europe and the Pacific. Its primary armament consisted of eight .50 caliber machine guns and it could carry five-inch rockets or a bomb load of 2,500 lbs. The P-47, known as "the jug" for its jug shaped nose, was also very combat durable. It weighed up to eight tons when fully loaded and besides its firepower it had the ability to resist battle damage and remain airborne. The P-47D Thunderbolt model aircraft is an authentic, extraordinary replica of the original aircraft that has been faithfully reproduced with kiln dried Philippine mahogany wood. Each model is meticulously carved, hand sanded and painted following exact blueprint details of the original aircraft. The result is a handsome, wood airplane sculpture to be admired and enjoyed.
