SBD-5 Dauntless Model Airplane
Our SBD-5 (scout bomber douglas) Dauntless Airplane is a replica scale model of the original aircraft manufactured by Douglas Aircraft. The Dauntless airplane was used primarily by the USN as a carrier-based aircraft performing scouting and bombing missions, from mid-1940 to mid-1944. It had its shining moment in the Battle of Midway when it sunk 4 Japanese ships, and earned the nickname Slow But Deadly. It was also flown by the USMC as both a land-based and carrier-based aircraft. Ultimately 5,936 Dauntless aircraft were produced.
The Douglas SBD Dauntless is an authentic, extraordinary replica of the original aircraft that has been faithfully reproduced with kiln dried Philippine mahogany wood. Each model is meticulously carved, hand sanded and painted following exact blueprint details of the original aircraft. The result is a handsome, wood airplane sculpture to be admired and enjoyed. It also arrives with an attractive wood base for display.
